From “I’m not a Maths person” to “Maths is my favourite subject now”

Hearing this from one of our students made us incredibly happy. It reminded us why we do what we do. Because we know that we are not here simply to lift grades. We want to see our students enjoy learning, especially a subject they once said they hated, a subject that made them feel discouraged or even low whenever they had to think about it.

We believe that grades are the end result. They improve when students begin to enjoy the subject, when they learn how to solve equations, and when they start to believe in their abilities and, most importantly, believe in themselves.

To make positive changes in their learning journey, we believe the end result is the product of teamwork. It is the result of students putting in the effort and time to revise, practise and focus their minds on their work. It is the result of parents supporting their children, making sure they show up every week and complete what needs to be done. And it is the result of tutors bringing their knowledge, skills, patience and care to every lesson.

It happens when we enjoy the interactions, trust the process and keep going, even when things feel difficult.

The student who once said, “I’m not a maths person,” starts to think, “Maybe I can do this.” Then, slowly, “I can do this” becomes “I’m good at this.” And perhaps one day, we hear those beautiful words: “Maths is my favourite subject now.”

That is when the magic appears. And that is the reason we do what we do.
